  • Adding Images in Posts

In order to add an image to a discussion, you need to first have a url to the image. This means that you have to upload the image to somewhere on the internet.

One easy way to do this is to use www. www.postimage.com.

You need to upload your image (remember anyone can see the image by reading a posting here, or other methods). After you upload the image you need to copy the 'html' line and paste it into a discussion comment.

Here is the format of an image in html. (only needed if you do not use postimage.org)

      <img src="http://site.com/pictlink.jpg"/>

This forum does not use BBCode - rather it uses html.

  • Adding Link

You can add a link to a posting: Copy the template below, and replace xxx with the URL, and yyy with what you want to call it (which can be the same as the URL).

      <a href="xxx">yyy</a>

Yep uses TWAIN and Image Capture to talk to scanners. We have purchased a few scanners and borrowed others in order to make sure that a wide variety of scanners work with Yep. We have a Canon LIDE 90 and a 35, an Epson Perfection 4490, an HP PSC2355 all in one, a ScanSnap, and more. It does however seem tricky from our point of view to get all scanners to work with Yep. There are just too many problems in both the scanner drivers, and Apple's own TWAIN code for us to be sure that every scanner will work with Yep.

Pointers: 1) Reinstall your scanner software from the most recent available from the scanner companies web site. If possible uninstall first. 2) Try ImageCapture and TWAIN with Yep to see which works for you. 3) Consider not using Yep's scanner interface by telling the scanner software to create PDFs and put them in your pending documents folder. This solution often works well, and is the way to use Yep with the ScanSnap. 4) Search the forums for postings on scanning or search for your brand of scanner.

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />Thanks. This helped. Scansnap in Settings Manager has "Applications" greyed out. So I will leave setttings as is. Dump new pdfs into a "pending" folder, then Yep from there. Look forward to getting started (paying-up).

If you have a new ScanSnap - the s510m - it has a great OCR package which I have heard is a little tricky to set up 'right' - so that there is only one PDF when you are done and it is OCR'd. Had a look here for any more info, but I don't have it.

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />Concerning the ScanSnap s510m and setting preferences in ScanSnapManager
'application' is greyed out when Use Quick Menu is checked.
If it's not, you can acces the application button.

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />I noticed that the ScanSnap S510M does not have TWAIN or ISIS compatibility. Would you suggest another make/model, or Is there a better option for a scanner that does 2 sided scanning?

The feature I liked about the S510M was that it would recognize blank pages and skip them in the scan process. Do other machines have this feature as well?

    Thanks

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />Has anyone tried the NeatReceipts Mobile Scanner? SamsClub has the Windows version for sale at a slightly cheaper price. The only difference is the software and I plan on using Yep, if it works.

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />A way to get scanners to work with Yep, even if they are not supported by the manufacturer in Mac OS X, and its free...

This great website has extensive support for all kinds of scanners, some extremely old: I've installed the packages in 10.4.11, and now in 10.5, and they both work great with apps like Yep.

TWAIN SANE Interface for MacOS X

They even have a package for 10.5!

The install procedure for me was, thanks to Steve Leibers Blog:

Grab all files from here: http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/ Install in the following order:

    libusb.pkg
    sane-backends.pkg
    twain-sane-interface.pkg
    sane-preference-pane.pkg

    From http://www.sane-project.org/:

"SANE stands for "Scanner Access Now Easy" and is an application programming interface (API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner, hand-held scanner, video- and still-cameras, frame-grabbers, etc.). The SANE API is public domain and its discussion and development is open to everybody. The current source code is written for UNIX (including GNU/Linux) and is available under the GNU General Public License (the SANE API is available to proprietary applications and backends as well, however). More details about the license can be found on our license page. Ports to MacOS X, OS/2 and Microsoft Windows are either already done or in progress."

    Hope this helps someone...

I have also tried this (a while ago now) and it worked for me. Apple has kind of dropped the ball on scanner support, but 10.6 will hopefully be better.

Note that scanners do not have to have a TWAIN interface to work with Yep. In fact TWAIN is a very very old way to scan.

The ScanSnap does not use Yep, but since it creates PDFs you really don't need to use Yep's interface. I really liked the scan snap we had for a while here.

I use my ScanSnap to scan directly into Leap. Heck, I even scanned into Fresh just to see if I could - worked fine.

My Epson Stylus CX6000 scanner works most of the time with Yep.
After updating to Leopard last year, I noticed that sometimes the scanner doesn't work with Yep.

When I click the 'Scan Page' button the 'Scanning new page...' progress bar drops down for less than a second and then goes back up. The page does not get scanned and there are no messages of anything going wrong.
I don't know what triggers the problem.

The one way that I have found to correct the problem is to log out and log in the user. A reboot of the Mac also works. A reboot of the scanner alone does not correct the problem.

I always keep the software up to date, OS, printer/scanner driver, Yep.
This problem never occurred when I was using Tiger.

I prefer to use Yep over the scanner's software to scan a page so I hope this can be fixed or perhaps I can change a setting to correct it. I've tried everything I can think of.
    Does anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks.

MacBook Pro, Core Duo, 2GB RAM, Epson Stylus CX6000 via USB

    Welcome, dwaynelw:

Almost every time we hear of scanner problems it is a problem with the scanner software so it's hard to say. When it does happen you could check Console.app for clues.

Just curious about using Yep with a Canon MP830.

When I am under preferences, I can select my Canon MP830 printer under Twain or Image capture, but the option to "scan" is never present.

I also can't seem to find a way with the Canon MP Navigator software to direct the scan to Yep..

I can scan th edocuments in with CAnon and then search for them with Yep after I add them in, but I'd like to have it work directly.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks Bluefrog.
It did happen again today and every time I selected 'Scan Page' this console message appeared.
    6/9/09 8:04:11 PM mds[24] (Error) Server: No store registered for scope &amp;quot;/Volumes/data&amp;quot;
    (related?)

I'll explain more about my system usage...
My scanner stays powered up at home. The MBP goes with me so I unplug the external drive (eSata via Express Slot) and the USB hub. The &amp;quot;/Volumes/data&amp;quot; is a volume on the external drive. When I come home I plug up everything and wake the computer. It seems to be at this time when the problem with ImageCapture occurs, but not every time.

Today when the problem occurred I went into Preferences&amp;gt;Scanning and selected 'Use TWAIN' and then scanned the document. Then I switched to 'Use ImageCapture' and now that worked. I always have TWAIN as a work around but it opens the clunky epson software.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone. I still can't imagine managing my PDF files without Yep. Thanks.

    Hello egoldy,
Just curious, have you tried File > New Document, or Command-N? At that time you should see the 'Scan Page' icon at the bottom of the window ready to click. Provided your scanner is powered up and connected to your computer, it should begin to scan the document.

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />I have a Brother MFC-7420. When I scan from Yep, it always scans whatever's on the flatbed and doesn't pull pages in the automatic feeder. Is there any way to get Yep to scan in the pages in the auto feed?
