  • Adding Images in Posts

In order to add an image to a discussion, you need to first have a url to the image. This means that you have to upload the image to somewhere on the internet.

One easy way to do this is to use www. www.postimage.com.

You need to upload your image (remember anyone can see the image by reading a posting here, or other methods). After you upload the image you need to copy the 'html' line and paste it into a discussion comment.

Here is the format of an image in html. (only needed if you do not use postimage.org)

      <img src="http://site.com/pictlink.jpg"/>

This forum does not use BBCode - rather it uses html.

  • Adding Link

You can add a link to a posting: Copy the template below, and replace xxx with the URL, and yyy with what you want to call it (which can be the same as the URL).

      <a href="xxx">yyy</a>

Hi, just trying to dive into this OpenMeta thing. I have one question though. Is there a way to proper sync files tagged with OpenMeta between to Macs? My problem is that I could not find one program yet that recognizes changed tags. All programs I tried just think there a no differences ...

Hi, did you try ChronoSynch (http://www.econtechnologies.com)?
As far as I can tell the program respect extended attributes and offer a lot of options including creating bootable clones via synching.

    Check it out,

    regards, Rolf

I use ChronoSync & was wondering about that. Thanks Rolf.
  1.
When you change tags, the file is not modified, so the modification date of the file does not change. There is another time called the ctime - change time - which gets changed when you edit files.

It seems that rsync, which is the underlying sync tool understands xattrs as of version 3. Looks like only 2.6.9 is installed by default on Leopard

We looked at changing the modification dates on files with OpenMeta, but it was not a good idea in the end. You need a tool that can detect changes in ctime. Or a tool that looks for changes in xattrs.

There are ways to get rsync 3 on a mac, but likely chrono sync will do the job.

This option is supported in rsync 2.6.9 on Leopard:

-E, --extended-attributes copy extended attributes, resource forks

I haven't tested it with large numbers of files but it's worked fine (AFAICT) with relatively light usage.

That option does not work properly. I have been using rsync 3.0 with a new option -X. This perfectly works for synching files with OpenMeta tags between multiple Mac via iPod.

Got an example of what doesn't work properly? Thanks.

When I used it about a year ago before rsync 3.0 was released, it sometimes missed detecting changes in xattr when synching many files. The problem was also reported at somewhere either at Apple discussion forum or ML of rsync. I think it is safer to use 3.0 as developers officially claim it supports EA on OS X.

I wasn't sure if Apple had done some internal fixes for -E in 2.6.9 but even if they did I might as well install v3 from MacPorts and use -X instead.

I've done a basic test with the latest version of ChronoSync 4 & it seems to work fine.

I created 2 folders, placed an RTF document in the 1st folder & tagged it. Then synced the 2 folders. The file & tag were carried over to the 2nd folder.
Then I tagged the RTF file again in the 1st folder without altering it in any other way (e.g. editing it & re-saving it). Synced it & it successfully synced the new tag over to the RTF file in the 2nd folder again.

When creating the ChronoSync file I went to Options > Sync Triggers & changed it from Basic w/Attributes to Extended to make sure it included Extended Attributes.

    Guest:

Jono this looks promising...has anyone done further/more extensive testing? I would really like to get Leap but don't want to invest in tagging if the tags won't sync between the three macs I use on a daily basis.

    Hi,

i'm using Synk Pro between 2 macs with a "shuttle" disk in between: the tags are preserved.
